Those two statements above should be used to guide all mankind of all their actions where health is particularly concerned. A great majority of us do not have the slightest idea how to maintain good health. We always rely on doctors to cure us when we get sick because we fail to realize “the cure” comes from within the human body. A wondrous Immune System has been provided to us by nature and all we have to do is take proper care of this inner healing force by eating the proper kind of food every single day.

However, the modern lifestyles has gotten us off the right tract – the fast foods, drug dependencies, alcohol and nicotine abuse, a polluted environment and high-tech stress. To enable the body to function up to its highest potential, nature intended to fuel our inner healing forces with the right natural substances like whole foods, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, phytochemicals, and other natural bounties – all these are designed for use in our immune systems. But because most of us lack the profound knowledge as to what our bodies need to properly function, we often find ourselves out of balance and susceptible to all kinds of illnesses.

Everybody should have taken active part in the maintenance of their health and in the immediate treatment of their disorders through the guidance of a health care professional. Once we learn about proper nutrition, we will then all be better prepared to take the active role of caring for ourselves. People should have good attitude in the processes of health maintenance and healing. Keeping a positive state of mind brings harmony to the body. The realization of the body (lifestyle), spirit (desire), and mind (belief) must come together as the first step to better health.

Another man named Moses Marmonides, a 12 th century philosopher said, “The physician should not treat the ailment, but the patient who is suffering from it.” This means that all individuals should know how meet their differing needs and to help them create their own nutritional program.

What are the basics of nutrition?

The basic foundation to good health is good nutrition. Every human body needs four (4) basic nutrients such as Water, Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats – the four elements being the basic building blocks of a good diet. Our bodies also need vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients. Choosing the proper foods and better understanding why foods should be supported with supplements, we all need to have a clear idea of what are the components to a healthy diet to enable one to achieve physical wellness.

Like the four basic nutrients, our bodies also need vitamins and minerals that are essential to life. They are considered nutrients and are referred to as micronutrients simply because only a relatively small amount is needed by the body compared to the four basic nutrients.

Consumption levels of the micronutrients are usually determined according to need in terms of prevention of diseases or whether the person is on the borderline health. Therefore, when the average adult is not suffering from any specific disorder they should obtain more than the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA’s) doses of vitamins and minerals from food sources and from supplements. Doses should be based on specific guideline because although the amounts recommended in the formula might be safe (they will not cause toxicity), they should be varied according to size and weight and also based on daily activity and exercise. People who are active and do exercise, those who are under stress, on restricted diets, or mentally and physically ill; women taking oral contraceptives; those on medication; those recovering from surgery; and smokers and alcoholics who consume beverages all need higher than normal amounts of nutrients.

There are 2 important elements needed to prevent sickness and disease in addition to a proper diet, exercise and a positive attitude – the micronutrients – vitamins and minerals.

Any lifestyle that includes the micronutrients will feel good and have more energy – something that all of us deserve to have.

It is of prime importance that when you take vitamins and minerals to correct deficiency, you must recognize that nutrients work synergistically which means that there has to be a cooperative action between vitamins and minerals, which works as catalysts, promoting the absorption and assimilation of the other vitamins and minerals. Correcting a deficiency in one vitamin or mineral requires the addition of others, not simply replacement of the one in which you are deficient. That is why taking a single vitamin or mineral maybe ineffective or even dangerous, and why a balanced vitamin and mineral preparation should always be taken in addition to any single supplement.

Phytochemicals is another group of health-promoting nutrients. This substance is considered to be powerful ammunition in the fight against cancer and other disorders. Phytochemicals seem to fight cancer. This substance is biologically active in plants that are responsible for giving them color, flavor, and natural diseases resistance. Diets high in fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes appear to reduce the risk of a number of diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure when compared with diets high in meat. Recently it was discovered that the disease-preventing effects of these foods are partly due to antioxidants – specific vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that help prevent cancer and other disorders by protecting cells against damage from oxidation – the phytochemicals. There is no supplement that can possibly contain all the cancer-fighters found in a shopping basket full of vegetables and fruits.

It is very fortunate that it is easy to get a healthy dose of phytochemicals at every meal, as tested, this substance is found in almost every grain, legume, fruit, and vegetable. Another important thing to note is that phytochemicals unlike many other vitamins does not destroy the substance by cooking or other processing. Eating much of the produce raw or lightly cooked, we will be able to enjoy the benefits not just the phytochemicals, but of all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that fresh whole foods have to offer.

In summary, it is therefore necessary to know what food to select, buy, and prepare for foods. That will clearly provide a healthy diet that will contain a proper balance of the four essential nutrients, as well as a rich supply of vitamins, mineral, and other micronutrients. Also, it is not enough to simply purchase foods that are high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, and complimentary proteins, and low in saturated fats. All the foods that we buy must also be free of harmful additives (msg) and artificial ingredients and it must be prepared in a way that preserves its nutrients and avoid the production of harmful substances.

Further, it is therefore recommended that we increase our consumption of raw produce that are organically grown without the use of insecticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizers, or growth stimulating chemicals. Choose produce (fruits and vegetables) that are at the peak of ripeness as it contains more vitamins and enzymes than the underripe or overripe or that has been stored for any length of time. Bear in mind that food kept in storage loses more nutrients. Do not overcook food nor cook it in burning flames like barbecues. Barbecue meats seem to pause the worst health threat in this regard because when a burning fat drips onto an open flame, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) – dangerous carcinogens are formed. When amino acids and other chemicals found in the muscle are exposed to high temperatures, other carcinogens, called heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs), are created. As a matter of fact, many of the chemicals used to produce cancer in laboratory animals have been isolated from cooked proteins. Also take note that even browned or burned bread crusts contain a variety of carcinogenic substances. Therefore, by eating produce raw or only lightly cooked, and by greatly limiting your consumption of meat, you will be doing much to decrease your risk of cancer and avoid other disorders.

Consider using the proper cooking utensils in preparing your food. Use only glass, stainless steel, or iron pots and pans. Do not use aluminum produce cookware or utensils. Foods cooked or stored in aluminum produce a substance that neutralizes the digestive juices, leading to acidosis and ulcers. Aluminum use is worse since the aluminum in the cookware can lead from the pot into the food. When food is consumed, the aluminum is absorbed by the body, where it accumulates in the brain and nervous systems tissues. Excessive amounts of these aluminum deposits have been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease.

Other cookwase to be avoided includes all pots and pans with nonstick coatings. Metals and other substances in the pots finish flakes or leaches into the food and these chemicals end up in your body.

Last to consider in maintaining body wellness is to use minimal salt on your food. We need 500 milligrams of sodium a day to stay healthy – maintain normal fluid levels, healthy muscle function, and proper acidity (pH) of the blood. Excessive sodium intake can cause fluid to be retained in the tissues, which can lead to hypertension (high blood pressure) and can aggravate many medical disorders to include congestive heart failure, certain forms of kidney disease, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS),

The best way to limit the sodium in your diet is to limit use of salt when cooking and dining. Stay away from processed foods that often contain excessively high amounts of sodium.

Important Things to Know Before Using Any Stimulant
