Cobia is cultivated in the deep ocean seas of the Philippines grown in huge net seacages where they are cultured for 10 months. They are noted for their delicious high quality of white meat ideal for steaks or fillet usually seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon juice. They are then made to rest for 15 minutes, pan-grilled in oil and butter for 3 minutes on each side, serve with lemon butter sauce and top with crispy garlic bits. Then served hot.

They are known to contain high quality protein and polyunsaturated fatty acids that lower blood cholesterol, blood sugar and lipoproteins.

Contains EPA 328-507 mg/100mg, an important food nutrient that is important to the brain.

It contains Vitamin E and Niacin in high levels.

They are found to be a source of high levels of free amino acids such as taurine, glycine and glutamic acid lysine that helps prevent the formation of gallstones and regulate nerve impulses.

For purposes of further information about cobia, it is a pelagic fish which occurs worldwide in all tropical and temperate seas, except for the eastern Pacific Ocean. In the western Atlantic, cobia is found from Nova Scotia south to Argentina; in the eastern Atlantic from Morocco to South Africa; and in the western Pacific from Japan to Australia. Cobia prefer water temperatures between 20degrees C - 30degrees C; they migrate south to warmer waters during autumn and winter they journey back north when temperatures rise again in the spring.

Adult cobias are often solitary or travel with just few other species, frequently in the company of sharks. This makes them a difficult species to target or capture is often incidental. Despite this, however, cobia is highly sought after food fish throughout its range in Mexico, for example, it is known as “esmedregal” and is the fish of choice for weddings and celebrations. In Belize, where it is known as “cabio”, a captured cobia likely won’t make it to market because the fisherman will keep it as a family treat. Cobia is also highly priced as a game fish. The Florida cobia record is 103 lbs. 12 oz. but the world record, held by Australia since 1985 is 135 lbs. 9 oz. (a 2 meter long fish).

Cobia in Aquaculture

Not only is cobia very tasty fish, it also grows very quickly: they reach 6-7kg one year after hatching (three times the growth rate of Atlantic salmon). These characteristics make cobia an appealing aquaculture species. Farmed cobia have a low feed conversion ratio, another plus for an aquaculture species. Although commercial production of cobia has only just begun in the west, it already has a successful history in Asia, most notably in Taiwan where cobia is stocked in around 80% of ocean cages.

FROZEN BLACK TIGER SHRIMP (Farm Fresh)

Black Tiger Shrimps has an increasing demand in world markets that has encouraged many developing countries to enter into the shrimp farming practice. Thailand is the world’s leader in shrimp exports. United States and Japan is Thailand’s largest export market and the demand is increasing yearly.

The farmed production of black tiger shrimp has grown at the phenomenal rate of 20 - 30% per year in the last two decades.

Deep-fried, sautéed, skewered, or dipped in cocktail sauce, shrimp are a popular food worldwide. But there is simply not enough shrimp to meet global demand.

Shrimp is farmed in some 50 countries and 99 percent of farmed prawns come from developing countries. Around 26% of total shrimp production comes from aquaculture. Much of the shrimp sold in restaurants and supermarkets today is cultivated in large factory-style farms carved out of the coastal landscape. From 940,000 tonnes in 1999, the shrimp farms raised their production to nearly 1,300,000 tonnes in 2001, and production is expected to double in the next decade.

Indonesia is the 3rd highest ranked world shrimp producer in the world. Ecuador the 6th, the Philippines ranks the 9th largest global shrimp producer.

DGL GLOBAL VENTURES LLC sourced our black tiger shrimp from the Philippines where they are farmed and harvested fresh and exported to different parts of the world. United States is our largest buyer.
